This clip with Ronnie Corbet and Harry Enfield is a short masterclass in clever copywriting.
Obviously it's funny, but it's funny because the writers have done their research.
Every line is packed with meaning, both subtle and obvious.
The skit appeals to all personality types.
They've taken two ordinary, familiar and boring scenarios, the fruit and veg shop and computer problems and mashed them together.
There's even a bit of sex in there
The end result is somethign that's become a viral hit.
Now while we aren't all of the class of Messers Enfield and Corbet, the skit shows what can be done with a bit of imagination and fun.
Next time you're working on your web copy, remember Harry and Ronnie and see if you can aspire to comic greatness.
Is Harry E Channelling Ronnie B?
Those of you who remember the late, great Ronnie Barker as the wiley shopkeepr Arkwright in Open All Hours, might like to think of him as the grandfather of conversion.
Arkwright never let a customer excape from his store without getting the maximum amopunt of revenue from them.
I may just do a series on Arkwright's tip for maximum conversion.
